The Barn at Mill Rock Farms est. 2020
Our Story
Mill Rock Farms began in Rock Island, TN in 2020 after a decade of dreaming and learning from books and conferences and amazing mentors. Degrees in Conservation Biology and Environmental Policy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a lifetime of being “GREEN” prepared me well for homesteading, agroforestry and regenerative ecological farming! I have a passion for environmental sustainability, for ethically-raised food and livestock, for living lightly and locally. Along with our five kids, we built THE DREAM with solar power, rainwater catchment, composting, rotational grazing, silvopasture, diversification, nutrient cycling, reducing/reusing/recycling/repurposing and soil regeneration as hallmarks. Missing were synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, antibiotics and hormones, and GMOs. In just five short years, MRF grew to everything I could have ever hoped it would be with numerous wholesale accounts and local retailers, an incredible farmstand and permitted deli for preparing farm to table food, and a faithful and beloved customer base purchasing online, on farm, at farmer’s markets..
Our personal lives changed dramatically in 2025; the family of the family farm altered. While we no longer have 26 incredible acres of rich organic gardens, lush thriving pastures and flocks of amazing animals to care for, fingers crossed I will one day have the opportunity to build it all again anew.
What I do have is WOOL. OMG, where my farm dreams began so many years ago!!! Squishy, warm, sustainable Shetland sheep fleece, yarn, roving. All from MRF sheep raised on our farm in TN. Handknits from our yarn, all undyed. Truly farm to fashion.
